• In your assigned group, complete the following tasks:

1. Together, learn about the critical literary perspective you have been assigned. Be sure to examine the "For Further Study" links.
2. Make notes in your notebook on the key elements of the perspective. Be sure to write these in your own words by synthesizing the material.
3. Discuss how stories we have read in class ("Born Bad", "We Show What We Have Learned", "Eleven", "The Nightingale and the Rose", "The Yellow Wallpaper") can be viewed using the critical literary perspective you have been assigned. 
4. Create a presentation for your classmates that (A) teaches your critical literary perspective and (B) demonstrates the perspective in action using stories we have read in class.

• Short Fiction: "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
• Written Response #12
• Read "Why I Wrote the Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
• Assignment: Review the story together in groups of 3 or 4 (only!). Your objective today will be to create a reading guide for students who are reading the story for the first time. 
1. Use Google docs to create your guide.
2. Think about the types of questions that help you when you're reading. The goal is to be helpful and open up meaning for students.
3. Use plot structure to organize your study guide- 2 questions from each section of the plot (10 total questions).
• 5 factual questions designed to help the reader understand the story on a basic level
• 5 interpretive questions designed to lead the reader to think more deeply about the story
4. Provide an answer key. For the interpretive questions, provide possible viable answers.
5. Choose one group member to submit the assignment to Google Classroom. Make sure all group members' names are on the doc.

• Final drafts need to be completed no later than Fri. 11/9/18 at 11:59 pm.

• In case you want to make sure your paper is in on time, I will have an informal workspace in my classroom after classes end on Friday's early release day. 

• Remember that you need to conference one-on-one with me at some point in your college essay process. Please see me to sign up for a conference if you have not already had one. • You should have already analyzed the story for the following:
• Plot: Mark where the sections of plot shift (Freytag)
• Character development: Analyze and annotate ideas about how the author uses literary techniques to characterize Rachel.
• Complete Written Response #10.
• In-class assignment: (NOTE: You will need to sign in to your school account to view these materials.)
• Review the AP prompt given in 1995 for this story.
• Review the scoring guide for the essay.
• For each of the sample essays:
• Identify and mark the thesis statement that responds to the topic.
• Use the scoring guide to assign the proper score for each essay. Make notes on the essays to justify the scores you give.
• Due Mon. 11/5/18: Bring your scores, annotations, and justifications.
